According to a questionnaire survey reported by the Global Times, about 65% of parents in Japan believe that the reason why their children do not go to school is the parents themselves.

According to Japan's "Mainichi Shimbun" report on October 29, the survey was organized by Futoko-net, a non-profit organization headquartered in Tokyo, and 574 guardians from all over Japan were surveyed.

On October 27, the organization released the findings of the survey: Regarding the issue of "changes brought about by children's refusal to go to school":

64.9% of the respondents believed that "the reason lies in the parents themselves, and the parents should be blamed";

53.7% of the respondents said they lost confidence in their parenting ability;

52.0% of the respondents said they felt "lonely".

When asked if they have ever sought help from others, 1 in 6.3 respondents answered "no".

Among the respondents who have sought help, 40% to 45% said that they had sought help from "class teachers" and "grade teachers, principals, teaching directors, etc.", and found it useful to ask for help.

The children of Rie Takeyama, head of Futoko-net, also refused to go to school.

She said: "Society cannot recognize the pain of these parents, and I hope the school will understand more. Relevant departments should also introduce relevant measures to strengthen financial assistance to these families and improve relevant consultation."

Yoshitomo Nakamura, another member of the group, said: "The burden of these parents has not been known until now. In order to ensure that children can receive education, it is necessary to take this social issue seriously and improve relevant laws and regulations to provide support."

According to a report by Japan's Jiji News Agency, on the 25th, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan announced the "Survey on Problematic Behavior and Failure to Attend School" in primary and secondary schools across the country. "Not going to school" means that students play truant for a long time on their own initiative.

The results show that in 2021, there will be 244,900 junior high school students and primary school students who have experienced the behavior of "not going to school", a year-on-year increase of 24%, setting a record high.

Various Japanese media reported on it one after another, believing that this is a serious social problem.

Previously, "not going to school" was considered to be a problem only for middle school students, but this year's survey shows that the number of "not going to school" among primary school students has increased by 3.6 times compared with 10 years ago, showing a younger trend.
