Indian telecom giant Reliance Jio has reportedly rolled out its "Jio True 5G" network in 33 districts in Gujarat state since launching 5G services in October. As a result, Gujarat has since become the first state in India to achieve 100% 5G coverage.


According to reports, Reliance Jio currently provides 5G services in 12 cities in India, including Mumbai, Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Chennai, Varanasi, Kolkata, Pune, Hyde Rabah, Bangalore, and Faridabad.


It is worth mentioning that local Jio users can join its 5G network and get 5G services without paying any additional fees. However, this is likely to be temporary. According to Indian officials, it is expected that charges will start after 5G is fully popularized.


"Starting November 25, Jio users in Gujarat will be invited to join the Jio 5G service and experience free unlimited data traffic at speeds up to 1Gbps," Jio said in an official statement.


During the 5G rollout, Reliance Jio assured its customers that the new 5G service will work with their existing 4G SIM cards. Reliance Jio has now offered the most diverse 5G services covering the 700MHz, 3500MHz and 26GHz bands since securing the widest spectrum in the 5G spectrum auction earlier this year.


According to public information, only Airtel and Jio, among the three major telecom providers in India, are currently providing 5G services, while Vodafone Idea has not yet provided 5G support. Reliance Jio's True 5G network is an SA network, which is different from Airtel's 5G Plus (NSA).


What is a 5G network?


As the requirements for data transmission speed and transmission quality are getting higher and higher, it is difficult for 4G networks to meet more new production and living needs. As of the end of March 2020, 381 operators in 123 countries and regions have announced the construction of 5G networks. 40 countries and regions have launched one or more 5G services. 63 operators have launched 5G mobile services that comply with 3GPP standards. 34 operators have launched 5G FWA or home broadband services in compliance with 3GPP standards.


The United States gives priority to the development of the millimeter wave frequency band, and the stability of equipment, mobile phones, applications, and services has been improved.


The focus of business development has shifted from fixed wireless access to mobile services. It is the second country in the world to launch 5G personal mobile services. At present, 5G in the United States is mainly concentrated in densely populated urban areas.


In Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, and other countries, cross-border operator Vodafone has jointly built shared antennas, base stations, and site sites with Orange, 02, and TIM, and has integrated tower resources with some of these operators.


Swedish operators Tele2 and Telenor jointly build a 5G network to quickly achieve wide coverage of the 5G network.


In Belgium, Orange and Proximus share an access network and a core network of independent operators.


In terms of global 5G commercial use, South Korea took the lead in launching 5G personal mobile services in April 2019. In the following months, the United States, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Kuwait, and other countries also launched 5G one after another, becoming the first countries to open 5G services.
