If we choose a representative mountain range for each continent, then the representative of Asia should be the Himalayas, the representative of Africa should be Mount Kilimanjaro

The representative of North America should be the Rocky Mountains, the representative of South America should be the Andes, the representative of Oceania should be the Great Watershed, and the representative of Europe should be the Alps. The Alps is a young folded mountain range.

About 70 million years ago, due to the collision and compression of the Eurasian and African plates, orogeny led to the uplift of rock formations to form a huge Alps, eventually reaching an average elevation of about 3000 meters.

The Alps are steep and are known as the "backbone of Europe". Mont Blanc, which stands between France and Italy, is the main peak of the Alps, reaching 4810 meters above sea level, making it the highest peak in Western Europe.

The existence of the Alps has had a great impact on the natural geographical environment of Europe. In terms of river hydrology, the Alps have become the birthplace of many major rivers in Europe, such as the Rhine, Danube, Po and so on.

The Alps have such large glaciers because the Alps are part of the ancient Mediterranean, formed during glacial orogeny 150 million years ago, and the mountains are still covered with ice up to 1000 meters thick.

The Western Alps stretch northward from the coast through southeastern France and northwestern Italy to Lake Geneva and the Rhone River Valley in Switzerland.

The shape of the mountains are: the coastal Alps near the Mediterranean Sea are low-lying and dry limestone, the Verdon Canyon in France is a deep ravine, Mount Mercantour Massif is a crystalline peak, and Mount Blanc is a glacier-shrouded dome

The Central Alps range from the Great St. Bernard Pass area east of Mont Blanc on the French-Italian-Swiss border to the Splugen Pass pass north of Lake Lake Como.

Most of the peaks in the Alps above 4000 meters above sea level are located in this section, such as Duffur, Dom, Weiss, Matterhorn and so on.

The Eastern Alps include the Latiche Mountains of Switzerland, the Dolomites Mountains of Italy

The Bavarian Alps of southern Germany and western Austria, northeastern Italy and the Iulian Alps of northern Slovenia (Julian Alps).

Matterhorn is the most famous peak in the Alps, located on the border between Switzerland and Italy, near the small town of Zermatt in the Swiss canton of Valais and the small town of Brey-Chervinia in the Valley of Ostas in Italy.

The name of Matterhorn is made up of the German word "Matt"(meaning valley, grass) and "horn" (meaning the mountain is tapered like a horn).
