A bridge generally refers to a structure erected on rivers, lakes and seas to enable vehicles and pedestrians to pass smoothly. Bridges are generally composed of superstructure, substructure, supports and auxiliary structures. The superstructure, also known as bridge span structure, is the main structure for crossing obstacles; the substructure includes abutments, piers and foundations; supports are span structures and piers. 1.Stone Strait Bridge

On April 5, 1998, the longest suspension bridge in the world, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Japan, was officially opened to traffic.
